2021 - Term 4 - COVID Testing Phase 2 - Home Testing - Students

About Us Sections

This week all students will be provided with Lateral Flow testing kits to bring home. This begins phase 2 of the Public Health England action to minimise the risk of Covid 19 transmission in schools and the local community.  Home kits will be been sent home with all students but testing as ever remains voluntary.

Over the last few weeks the Academy has, with your support,  carried out over 4,500 lateral flow tests which has been a monumental effort with little disruption to learning.  We would like to thank all of our staff volunteers for their efforts in this task.

The in school testing phase ends on Friday 19 March and no further tests will be carried out.  This process has run extremely well due in part to the staff who organised the process but more importantly the attitude shown by the students that allowed it to run so smoothly.  All of the students tested are a credit to the Academy and their families for the maturity and responsibility they showed throughout the whole process.  From Friday 19 March we move into the second phase of the testing regime for school students which requires them to test at home twice per week.

The Process:  To ensure the smooth runningof the home testing process the following dates are crucial

On Thursday 18 March (year 7, 8, 9 and 10) and Friday 19 March (Year 11)  your child will bring home 2 testing kits which have been taped together.  These kits have enough equipment to carry out six tests.  The tests will be accompanied by an NHS instruction booklet – which is blue. There is no picture on the front of this booklet. This booklet replaces the NHS booklet inside the Lateral Flow Testing Kit boxes.   Your child will have performed the Lateral Flow Test 3 times in school and the booklet will help remind them of the process and inform you how to report Lateral Flow Test results to the NHS. Further tests will be sent home with students, once we have received further deliveries. We are hoping that this will be before Easter. (If this is the case, your child will be able to continue to do the Lateral Flow Tests on Wednesdays and Sundays throughout the holiday)

These tests must be carried out 3-5 days apart and the Academy suggests that all students follow the same testing regime.

Testing dates are as follows:-

 ·        Test 1 - Sunday 21 March 2021

·        Test 2 - Wednesday 24 March 2021

·        Test 3 - Sunday 28 March 2021

·        Test 4 - Wednesday 31 March 2021

·        Test 5 - Sunday 18 April (if further deliveries of Lateral Flow Tests have not arrived before term ends)

·        Test 6 - Wednesday 21 April 2021.

The last home test this term will be on WEDNESDAY 31 MARCH 2021. We hope to receive a further deliveries of tests prior to Easter, but if they have not arrived, students should not test themselves during the Easter holidays, leaving enough tests to test themselves again on SUNDAY 18 APRIL 2021 i.e. the night before they return to school and Wednesday 21 April.

If you require further assistance to support your child to carry out a lateral flow test, please follow the link below to watch a video on how to perform the test.

If your child tests positive at any point, or you believe you have Covid in your immediate family, please do not send your child to school, inform the Academy and obtain a confirmatory PCR test.

I am sure that your child will continue to test in a mature and responsible fashion that will help families, the school and then the wider community to mitigate the risk of Covid 19 transmission. If you have any questions concerning this process or you have not received your child’s test then please contact Ms Lawrie via telephone on 01424 730722 or email fleur.lawrie@bexhillacademy.org who will log and answer your query.

Finally, we will distribute further tests to students with new dates as soon as we have them in school.

Thank you once again for your support in this Public Health England action to minimise the risk of Covid 19 transmission.

Mrs V Norris-Wright, Head of Academy
