Assessment Overview:


  • Exam paper 1: The human body and movement in physical activity and sport. 1 hour 15 minutes, 30%, 78 marks.
  • Exam paper 2: Socio-cultural influences and well-being in physical activity and sport. 1 hour 15 minutes, 30%, 78 marks.
  •  Non-exam assessment: Practical performance in physical activity and sport. 40%, 100 marks, 3 sports assessed (25 marks each) and a written analysis of performance (25 marks)

Other notes:

All students will complete two 1 hour 15 minute exam papers based around the human body and movement and socio-cultural influences in sport. Students’ ability to use and decipher data will be assessed in both exam papers.

Students will also be assessed in their practical performance of three sports, one sport from the individual group, one sport from the team group and one more from either group.

  • Badminton- cannot be assessed with doubles badminton.
  • Canoeing/kayaking(slalom) - cannot be assessed in both canoeing and kayaking. Cannot be assessed with canoeing/kayaking sprint, rowing or sculling.
  • Canoeing/kayaking(sprint) Cannot be assessed in both canoeing and kayaking. Cannot be assessed with canoeing/kayaking slalom, rowing or sculling.
  • Trackor road cycling - cannot be assessed in track cycling and in road cycling.
  • Dance - can only be used for one activity.
  • Diving- platform diving only.
  • Golf
  • Gymnastics (artistic) - floor routines and apparatus only. Cannot be rhythmic gymnastics.
  • Equestrian
  • Rock climbing - can be indoor or outdoor climbing.
  • Sculling - cannot be assessed with rowing, canoeing or kayaking.
  • Skiing - outdoor/indoor on snow - cannot be assessed with snowboarding. Must not be on dry slopes.
  • Snowboarding - outdoor/indoor on snow. Cannot be assessed with skiing. Must not be on dry slopes.
  • Squash - cannot be assessed with doubles squash.
  • Swimming - cannot be synchronised swimming. Cannot be personal survival. Cannot be lifesaving.
  • Table Tennis - cannot be assessed with doubles table tennis.
  • Tennis - cannot be assessed with doubles tennis.
  • Trampolining

  • Squash - cannot be assessed with singles squash.
  • Table tennis - cannot be assessed with singles table tennis.
