  • Written exam – one hour 30 minutes
  • Worth 88 marks (including 3 marks for spelling, punctuation, grammar and specialist terminology)
  • Accounts for 35% of the total GCSE grade

Exam Paper Two: Challenges in the human environment

What’s assessed:

  • Urban issues and challenges
  • The changing economic world
  • The challenge of resource management
  • Geographical skills

How it’s assessed:

  • Written exam – one hour 30 minutes
  • Worth 88 marks (including 3 marks for spelling, punctuation, grammar and specialist terminology)
  • Accounts for 35% of the total GCSE grade

Exam Paper Three: Geographical Applications                  

What’s assessed:

  • Issue evaluation (decision making/problem solving)
  • Fieldwork (two separate fieldwork tasks – with a  physical and human focus)
  • Geographical skills         

How it’s assessed:

  • Written exam – one hour 15 minutes
  • Worth 76 marks (including 6 marks for spelling, punctuation, grammar and specialist terminology)
  • Includes a pre-release resource booklet, available to staff and students 12 weeks before the Paper Three exam.
  • Accounts for 30% of the total GCSE grade
