A Message from Bexhill Academy
After careful consideration we have increased the cost of schools meals. This decision hasn’t been taken lightly and we have been in consultation with our current provider Harrisons, in order to work out a solution that is cost effective to everyone.
During 2023 food inflation was 19.2% and is now tracking at 1.7% for 2024. Labour costs have increased by 9.8% in April 2024 and are expected increase between 5% and 6% in 2025. We are now at the point where we need to look at our price per meal costs.
Overall canteen prices will increase by 7% with a meal increasing in cost by 15p and meal deal increasing in cost by 18p. This increase will take effect from 3rd September 2024.
Healthy school meals, cooked on premises, are available each day. There is a three weekly rolling menu detailing each day’s main course and dessert. We also offer vegetarian option, selection of sandwiches, wraps, baguettes, pasta pots and a salad bar.
Free School Meals allowances will increase by 18p from 3rd September 2024 in line with canteen prices.

Please see the following suggestions from our Catering Manager, Sarah,
If you have not had money put on the School Gateway app, you can pay cash into the school canteen before tutor time . We advise this to be done when you first come to school, so you can go straight to the tills at break or lunch as your money will be available.
If you are entitled to FSM this will not show up on the School Gateway, it will only show when you go to the till. It will always take from the FSM account first when you purchase items and the value is £2.73 per day. It is best to save that for lunchtime, as if you spend it before, there will be none left on the account for lunchtime.
We have two kiosks outside, one in each playground; both sell snacks and drinks. Ice lollies and cookies are also available but only at lunchtime.
The end till and counter at lunchtime will be offering the main meal of the day: jacket potatoes and pasta. On Fridays you can buy boxes of chips at the other counter. The main counter will be a fish and chip lunch.
The main menu will be up on the counter from breakfast time so that you have a chance to think about what you might like for lunch.
Please do speak to Sarah (She wears a white coat!) or any member of her team - they are always happy to help.

Please note these menus will run until the October half-term.
