As we approach the end of a very successful year, I am writing to inform you about times and dates for the new School term in September and reminders for the new school year.

End of Term – Tuesday, 23 July at 12.30pm: School finishes on Tuesday, 23 July at 12.30pm at the end of the Sports Day event. All students must attend school on Tuesday in their Academy PE kit. Students in receipt of free school meals will be able to obtain food on the field from Canteen staff up until 12.00pm.


First Day Back - Thursday, 5 September: School starts on Thursday, 5 September for all students.  We are however having a staggered start as usual which is as follows:

Year 7 and 11 are expected to arrive to school at 8.20am. 

Years 8, 9 and 10 may arrive for break at 10.30am but will be expected to be in tutor time at 10.55am. 

Key Dates for Term One

  • Year 9 - 11 GCSE Evening –  Thursday, 19 September

  • Inset Day – Friday, 27 September

  • Year 7 Settling in Evening – Thursday, 3 October

New Timetable Structure: As you may be aware, Bexhill Academy is the school of choice for the Community of Bexhill and we are full in Year 7 for September with 330 students joining us and a waiting list in place. Our indoor Heart Space is the centre of the Academy and is a very popular venue at break and lunch to socialise in with students chatting, playing cards and sometimes revising! To ensure that all students are able to get lunch in a reasonable time frame and have the opportunity to sit and socialise in comfort, we have split Year groups for break and lunch for September 2019. I have modelled the timetables below. All lessons are 1 hour. Breaks and Tutor Times are 25 minutes in length and lunch is 30 minutes. There are no changes to the length of the school day or the start and finish times.

Year 8 – 11 Timetable: Lesson 1, Lesson 2, Break, Tutor Time, Lesson 3,  Lesson 4,  Lunch, Lesson 5

Year 7 Timetable - Lesson 1,  Break,  Lesson 2,  Tutor Time,  Lesson 3, Lunch,  Lesson 4, Lesson 5

 

Reminders

Uniform and Jewellery: We expect the highest standard of uniform from all students. If you are unsure of what the full correct uniform is, please find details on our website or at Superstitch86.  All year groups must wear a blazer.  Shoes must be a polished dress shoe. As normal, students who arrive at school who are not in the correct uniform will be sent home to change.  We are all very proud of our uniform standards and we will continue to check everyday at the student entrance to ensure that the standards are maintained.  Our Jewellery policy specifies that students can wear one stud in the lower ear lobe. Facial piercings are not allowed. Make-up must be discreet with no false eyelashes or nails.

 

Equipment: Please help your child by ensuring that they have all the necessary equipment to access their learning. All students are expected to have pens (black or blue), a pencil and a ruler (15cm or 30cm) with them each day. Students are also expected to have a bag that can fit an A4 folder or their Knowledge Organiser in without bending or folding. Students in Years 7 and 8 are required to have the academy bag featuring the academy logo. Students will have their equipment checked daily.


Phones & Other Electronic Devices: Students are allowed to bring their mobile phones to school as we appreciate the role phones have in ensuring students are safe on their way to and from school.  However, phones, headphones, ear buds and smart watches (watches that can be used to make phone calls or send and receive text messages) will need to be placed in bags before entering academy premises. Phones and other electronic devices may not be used on academy premises until after the end of the school day at 2.50pm. All jewellery, phones, headphones and any other personal items are brought to the Academy at the owner’s risk. We always advise Parents/carers to ensure that valuable items are left at home.


Banned Items: Due to Health and Safety reasons, students must NOT bring aerosols, energy drinks, canned drinks or any medications into school. (Medications must be delivered to our Welfare Officer by parents/carers). Lighters, e-cigarettes, tobacco/cigarettes or any smoking related items are prohibited on school premises.  

Communication: Your child’s Form Tutor remains the first port of call if you have any concerns.  If you wish to discuss elements related to progress in a subject, please contact your child’s subject teacher.
