Bexhill Cricket Academy

Parents Sections

Bexhill Cricket Academy is a newly formed sports academy run by Bexhill Academy and working in partnership with Sussex Cricket and Bexhill Cricket Club. The academy has many aims including

·         Pushing elite players to their full potential

·         Cricket for all

·         Developing primary school players

·        Introducing girls to Cricket.

The academy has already had some success with the Under 13s winning the District Indoor Competition for the second year running and will now go on to the County Finals. Last year they reached the semi-finals of the County Competition at Hove County ground. The Under 15s were also successful and won the District Indoor tournament. Both teams were undefeated in their District Competition.

The Bexhill Cricket Academy has many projects starting up with the latest being the elite coaching programme, where 16 of our most elite cricketers at Key Stage 3 are having coaching sessions with Sussex cricket in term 5 and 6.

Also in term 5, our ‘Cricket For All club’ will be starting as we look to offer the sport to everyone at the school as well as strengthen our teams ready for the very busy County Cup fixture list.

Other projects looking to start in September include our primary school club and our girls club which will be run by Sussex Cricket coaches.

Match Reports

Bexhill Academy is very pleased to announce that our Under 13 Indoor Cricket team matched the success of our Under 15 Cricket team by becoming undefeated Area Champions.

They will now join our Under 15 team in the County Finals at the Sussex County ground in Hove. The boys absolutely dominated the tournament by beating teams by 80+ runs in some games.

In the final they beat the favourites St Leonards Academy (who had at least 2 county players in the side) by over 50 runs.

Well done!

Six of our very talented Cricket players went to the Under 15 Indoor Tournament recently which was attended by schools from Hastings and Rother and Eastbourne. Last year our team won the Under 13s event and went on to the County Finals. They came back from the tournament as undefeated Champions. They played some very strong Year 10 teams from the area and did Bexhill Academy very proud. They now go onto the County Finals.

Well done to Ali Kent, Shahriar Alam, Paul Crittenden, Hadley Skilton, Callum Gordon, and Finlay Jack!

Our Under 13 Cricket team progressed to the second round of the County Cup on 8 May 2017 with a great win against Heathfield Community College. Our bowlers kept the opposition down to 73 – 7 with a great bowling display by Dylan Lands (2 wickets for 7 runs) and debutant Taylor Wickenden (2 wickets for 2 runs). Other wickets came from Sam Gillam, Jack Thunder and Dan Mitchell. Our batters put on a brilliant display scoring 90 for 1 wicket. The pick of the batters were Sam Rimmer (24 runs and not out), Jack Biddiss (23 runs and not out) and Finlay Jack (16 runs and not out).

Well done U13s

Bexhill Academy moved into the Under 14 County Cup quarter finals, with an amazing win against Heathfield Community College. It was a very close game with only 5 runs splitting the team. Bexhill batted first and put a big total of 110 for 1 wicket as a target. Some amazing batting was on show with Paul Crittenden scoring a magnificent 50 (not out). This is the highest score an individual has achieved for many years in a school match for us. His batting partner Finlay Jack also put on a great display and scored 35 (not out).

Heathfield also batted well and looked set to win the match until our bowlers took some outstanding wickets. Alistair Kent led by a Captains example and took two wickets for 19 runs. But man of the match Paul Crittenden stepped up towards the end of the innings and claimed 2 vital wickets for just 3 runs in only 6 balls.

Bexhill Academy will now meet either Blatchington Mill or Gildredge House in the quarter finals.

Well done U14s

Our Year 7 team successfully qualified for the second round of the County Cup by beating Gildredge House School in their first ever game for the school. Bexhill Academy batted first and scored an impressive 109 for 4. Some amazing batting was on display especially from Rowan Crouch who scored an impressive 50 (not out).

The bowling was even more impressive, taking all the opponents wickets in just 12 overs. Taylor Wickenden led the bowling attack and claimed 2 wickets for just 9 runs. Other wickets came from Charlie Francis and Rowan Crouch.

The fielding display was magnificent with George Fox playing his first game as a wicket keeper and stumping a number of batters out. There was a total of 6 run outs from the teams great fielding.

The Under 12s will now face Cardinal Newman School (Brighton), away, in the next round

Well done U12s

The Year 7 Cricket team travelled to Claverham recently to compete in the District Street 20 competition. The team played some lovely Cricket and beat some very strong teams. They won nearly every game but unfortunately lost by 4 runs to Battle Abbey, who went on to win the competition. Although we finished as runners up, we were the highest placed state school in the competition finishing above St Richards, Claverham and St Leonards Academy who we also beat in our games.

Well done: Charlie Francis, Taylor Wickenden, D'shaun Allen, Rowan Crouch, Logan Copley and George Fox.
